The Joinery West End- the ultimate blank canvas

If you love the idea of starting with a blank space and building your wedding from the ground up, the Joinery West End might be just what you need.

Industrial chic with flair

The Joinery is a fairly new addition to Brisbane’s wedding venue scene. It is architecturally designed and stands out on Montague Road with its large lattice façade.

Inside you’ll find a warehouse-looking interior – but high end. It has very high ceilings, exposed brick, polished concrete floors, and the plywood joinery that gives the building its name.

It’s an industrial feel but also sleek and modern. Perhaps not for everyone, but it might be right up your alley.

The main space can fit up to 300 standing guests or 200 people for a seated event. So you can really have a big reception here!

Additionally, whole venue will be exclusively yours for 6 hours, as they only do one event at a time. As part of the venue hire, you get access to a main event space, bar, enclosed terrace, courtyard and green room. It’s all air conditioned and has a built-in sound system.

Freedom to style

The best part about this venue is that you have total freedom to plan the wedding of your dreams, right down to the chairs, flowers and lighting. They give you a list of great preferred suppliers to help you refine your search.

They don’t offer a set wedding package because the whole idea of the venue is that the client styles it to suit their own vision and budget. (Hence this venue also hosts conferences, birthdays and other types of events.)

You can choose to have your ceremony elsewhere – the wedding I attended was at nearby St Marys Church – and use this space for your reception afterwards. Alternatively, some couples style the space to hold both ceremony and reception in the same place.

Venue hire includes assistance to coordinate your event.

Catering

All the catering is supplied by the on-site caterer, Chez Nous Catering. So you can’t bring your own food or caterer.

However, they are a professional, family-run business that’s been around for more than 18 years, so you can count on them for your special day. The events team includes a supervisor with wait and bar staff for your event and .

All menus are custom designed to suit your requirements, and a menu tasting is included in your catering quote.

You have the option of  BYO, and they also provide a wonderful list alcohol, but the RSA-certified wait staff are happy to serve it.

Photos

There are lots of great local places to get gorgeous photos, including South Bank and the Brisbane River.

For the wedding I attended, we drove up to Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) for some great shots.

Parking and accommodation

Unfortunately there’s no on-site parking for your wedding guests. There is some street parking in the area, though time restrictions apply. Secure Parking facilities are only a few streets away, and public transport to and from West End is very good.

Accommodation is no problem, as the venue is close to South Bank and the city. Just a quick taxi or Uber ride will get them to their hotel after the event.
